Sustainability

As a response to numerous failures and poor performance of closures at waste containment facilities, engineers have studied new approaches to establish a more physically stable and environmentally sustainable solution. Traditional landfills require large amounts of soil for their construction; and many experience on-going erosion, stability and sedimentation issues. Also, traditional covers are highly reliant on large soil borrow sites, trucking / hauling of soils, heavy civil construction, on-going maintenance and repairs in order to maintain their integrity. ClosureTurf® significantly lowers these impacts to the environment throughout the capping construction process.

ClosureTurf® has approximately 1/5 the carbon footprint of the Subtitle D traditional soil cover system. The details of the carbon footprint calculations are shown in the following chart.
