Bethpage State Park opened in 1935 with 4 courses designed by A.W. Tillinghast; The park spans over 1,500 acres, roughly 25 miles from New York City. The Black Course hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009, The Barclays FedEx Cup PGA Tour Playoff Event in 2012 and again in 2016. It continues to be considered a championship venue to host major future events, like the 2019 PGA Championship and Ryder Cup in 2024. The Black Course is currently ranked #42 in the U.S. by Golf Digest. The Park sees roughly 300,000 rounds annually. The installation of the HydroTurf® was overseen by Head Golf Course Superintendent of the Black Course, Michael Hadley.
