Shaw Industries goal of achieving net zero operations by 2030 took another step forward by implementing Watershed Geo’s PowerCap™ technology at Plant T1 in Adairsville, GA.
This installation at Plant T1 demonstrates PowerCap’s potential to provide power outside of the original landfill intended setting. PowerCap can be installed on steep slopes in any application to provide renewable energy as companies work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This installation provides approximately 300kW of power to be used at the plant.
The PowerCap technology rests directly on the ClosureTurf® final cover system. The friction technology secures the system without penetrating the final cover system, allowing the integrity of the closure to remain intact. PowerCap is able to provide up to 3x the output of a traditionally ballasted system, producing up to 1 MW per 2 acres.
The installation at Shaw Plant T1 doubles as an active demonstration site for Watershed Geo family of products. This is an accessible location that potential clients can visit to see a completed installation of the technology.
At a recent “Flip the Switch” event where the project officially went live, Tim Baucom, President and CEO of Shaw Industries said,
“This endeavor has illustrated our shared commitment to providing our customers with innovative, sustainable solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges.”
