The Tiverton Landfill in Tiverton, Rhode Island was the last municipally owned landfill in the state, and upon closure, the owners chose to use ClosureTurf® for phases I-IV of its final closure because of the many benefits and solutions it provides.
In 2022, this 21.9 Acre landfill closed after extending its use 2 years past the anticipated close date. ClosureTurf® has been successfully used on other landfills within the state, and because of its proven effectiveness and the owner’s familiarity and trust in the ClosureTurf® system, it was chosen to cap this landfill.
Watershed Geo was able to provide many ongoing benefits to the town of Tiverton through this engineered system. The installation speed was significantly lower than a traditional vegetated cap because no additional soil was needed. Eliminating the need for soil also eliminated the risk of accident in transporting the soil.
Recurring maintenance costs for traditional covers can be very high due to erosion and mowing. With the ClosureTurf® system, the need for these things is eliminated, and there are no recurring maintenance costs.
