The town of Coventry, Rhode Island chose to use ClosureTurf® for the final closure of the 10 acre Coventry landfill in order to prevent further contamination of their air and stormwater quality.
This landfill which had been active since the 1940’s was unofficially closed in the 1970’s. The town was allowed to cover the existing waste with partially contaminated soil, but it continued to contaminate the area.
When forced to install a final cover to eliminate contamination of the air and surrounding water sources, the Town of Coventry Public Works trusted Watershed Geo’s ClosureTurf® system as a cost-effective and time-saving solution. The client chose this system as a result of their familiarity with the system and observing it’s effectiveness in other applications.
The ClosureTurf® system requires no ongoing maintenance, which eliminates thousands of dollars in damage due to erosion and maintenance of growing vegetation. No additional soil was needed to install the system, which significantly reduced the time to install the cap, and reduced the risks associated with bringing in more materials.
